My background
- Kenny was born and raised in Colorado to Vietnamese refugees from the Vietnam War. He is the first in his family to go to college, graduating with a dual degree in Political Science and Communication from the University of Colorado Boulder. He recently completed his Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Colorado Denver.
- Professionally, Kenny has served as an AmeriCorps Service Member for the Boulder “I Have a Dream” Foundation and as a community organizer for the Jared Polis for Governor campaign in 2018. Kenny served as the Executive Assistant to Colorado’s Lieutenant Governor, Dianne Primavera for over five years.
- Currently a Broomfield City Council for Ward 1 and previous chair to the Broomfield Arts, History and Cultural Council, Kenny is passionate about investing in his community. His City Council assignments include the Broomfield Chamber of Commerce, Metro Area County Commissioners (MACC), and the Northwest Mayors & Commissioners Coalition (MCC). Additionally, Kenny previously served as the Vice Chair to the Colorado Democratic Party Asian American Pacific Islander Initiative. During his time in the role he was part of efforts to inspire and expand voter turnout in the AAPI community.
- In his freetime, Kenny enjoys taking part in Colorado’s vibrant anime and cosplay community. You can also find him cultivating a community online. In 2023, Kenny joined Lafayette Mayor J.D. Mangat for a 24 hour livestream fundraising money for victims of the Marshall Fire.
- Kenny is active in the Broomfield Democratic Party, previously serving as the party’s Secretary. It would be an honor and privilege for him to serve as Colorado’s next representative for House District 33.
- If elected, Kenny will be the first Vietnamese American to the Colorado State Assembly and will join a small group of Colorado elected officials under age 35 striving to better represent their constituents at the state house.
